War Drums in the Druid Hills

There is big trouble brewing in the Druid Hills Subdivision, with the Druid Hills Property Owners Association (DHPOA),”the way I see it” group members want to come down on their neighbors with vicious intent in order to cause an unfriendly atmosphere, and clean up the neighborhood. My first experience with living in the Druid Hills was in 1983, where people lived simply, safely, minding there own business taking care of the land and enjoying the abundant wildlife that resided here. Moreover, not dealing with a group calling code enforcement on people that have antique cars and live in single story dwelling, that are not up to the groups standards of living, persistently were,“ attacking anyone’s character”, speaking for myself.

I have seen, noticed, and observed people leaving our subdivision, harassed “from my point of view” by this group that overstepped their boundaries of human decency in order to rid the subdivision of the working class and bring in a retired community(more money more prestige), that really wanted a gated community”. Fortunately, we are not a fabulous gated community where people have well manicured lawns, maintained sidewalks, everyone has huge homes that bring property values up, and neighbors compete with each other for prestigious values like in the city.

Moreover, “The DHPOA was formed without the consent, expressed desire, or recorded vote of any type,*of the then property owners of the Druid Hills, (majority of owners) as is required by the original covenants”. This was a quote from one of the original members that later resigned, from disgust of what this association had become. Our covenants that ran with the land for 30 years gave us the option to form an association if the majority 2/3 wished to, and the intention or imagined plan in forming an association was for the betterment of all here in the Druid Hills Subdivision, and the freedom, and prosperity, to enjoy life with family and friends here in the Druid Hills Subdivision.

Nevertheless, the DHPOA sent letters to property owners in the Druid Hills Subdivision demanding they pay their dues, in the beginning the association threatened with liens if members did not pay, which is a form of bullying “in my opinion”. Subsequently, in the DHPOA newsletter their attorney stated, “nobody can be forced to join their association” because of the 13 amendment, which has to do with slavery and peoples rights to choose. Therefore, it is our constitutional right as property owners to choose or decide about joining an association, pay voluntary dues, or become governed by any group that imposes their laws and does not abide by the rules or their own by-laws and in non-compliance with the Secretary of State.

For these reasons, the DHPOA (group) was suspended by the Secretary of State (SOS) in 1997 and dissolved by the SOS from June 1, 1998 to April 11, 2002, while they collected dues and they rewrote our covenants that were in effect to run with the land for 30 years, changing our covenants to their advantage, business as usual. * Please check the SOS site http://www.sos.state.co.us, under their name DHPOA, click “documents and history” to check out and confirm their dissolved corporation. To amend their actions, they later said, in their newsletter that they did not have to be a corporation to do all the things they did, I am finding their conduct, attitude, and their nerve to conduct business as usual, appalling” if you ask me”.

At the same time, a letter was sent out to members of the Druid Hills in 2001 from a board member asking them not to vote if they opposed the DHPOA rewrite of our covenants, which caused the previous letter” I “sent out asking them to vote and oppose the covenant rewrite “invalid”; therefore, making the rewrite of our covenants unopposed by people not voting, and anybody who tried to oppose them suffered their wrath, unfortunately.

In my opinion, this group initiates the falsification, hate and corruption against neighbors. These are not “unfounded allegations” but real occurrences well-founded, relentless discussions about how they are going to go after people “take action “form “patrol committees” which are surprisingly not documented within the minutes of their meetings, but discussed at their meeting nonetheless against all the neighbors they do not like or want to come after for their own personal agenda, this was confirmed at their meeting in 2015.

Furthermore, adding to the fire a former board member brought up “ an ongoing problem”, attacking his neighbor’s character that he obviously did not like, he has complained on his neighbors relentlessly, ever since he moved into our quiet neighborhood, and surprisingly, this group suggested forming a committee, having a “plan of action” against this person, having neighborhood patrols.

The prevalent dark atmosphere around the DHPOA was disturbing when they presented this flyer for their Town Meeting,” Our very special thanks to the Woodland Police Department for being present and assisting our meeting”. “We can not tolerate outbursts, profanity nor are we here to attack anyone’s character”. Subsequently, what caused their paranoia was what happened at the previous meeting in 2006, a definite plan to dissolve their association backfired when everyone started arguing, yelling, and someone was catching all this on video tape of the meeting, which caused utter chaos when the DHPOA denied everything.

Subsequently, the most disturbing point of their discussion at that meeting was their persistent intent to increase dues so they could “fight their legal battles” and the “losers will pay”, and open a reserve bank account just for that purpose, all members joined in saying our dues are too low. The president suggested “we want our property values to stay high”, “we do not want trash in our neighborhood,” he whispered, actually, I did not know if he was talking about actual trash, people, or both. The former POA President is always talking about property values, like he is the only person who bought land here in the Druid Hills, actually our homes are valued in comparison to other properties of equal size, nothing to do with smaller homes already standing.

“It seems to me that” the DHPOA(group) role is basically ruling others, calling code enforcement and relentless intimidation, threatens our existence in our own subdivision; the years have reflected fraudulent activities, bullying and extortion groups getting away with the most horrific offenses against their neighbors. Their perpetual bashing (attacking ones character) and rumors spread to newcomers (retired folk with money) that do not know about their neighbors in our subdivision, has caused turmoil in our subdivision.
