The Druid Hills POA wrongful conduct simply cannot be allowed to continue. The coercion and intimidation tactics used to forcefully perpetuate their voluntary association must stop.
I wonder how many elderly in our community knew that they had a choice? I wonder how many elderly in our community on a fixed income, or other families on fixed incomes, are sent invoices that they pay unaware of their right to opt out?
A previous homeowner here in Druid Hills tells her story:
I had no idea when I got the invoice in the mail what it was for, but I just assumed it needed to be paid, so I paid it. It was only twenty-five dollars. My husband didn’t know, but a couple years later he found out that I had been paying them. He got so very upset with me, because he obviously understood what was happening and I was just in the dark. I thought that I was paying for something that went towards maintenance or some other required service here in our subdivision, I just had no idea.
Deceptively making demands for dues and misleading homeowners is not acceptable. I highly encourage anyone who has been paying the Druid Hills POA dues to seriously consider contacting an attorney with experience in Colorado State and HOA law.
Additional allegations have been made by past and present homeowners suggesting racketeering, poisoning of animals, harmful threats, trespass, and misuse of local agencies to attempt to harass pets and their owners who oppose their actions. Homeowners are afraid of coming forward publicly, revealing their identity, and fearful of retaliation and further harassment. Some are just remaining quiet in hopes that this will all go away on it’s on, but I’m sorry to say, that will not happen without the victims of our community coming together.
