POA Demanding Dues, For What?

The Druid Hills Property Owners Association, POA, are demanding dues – but what for exactly? They are not a mandatory association, were never properly voted in, or have the required support from homeowners. What have they provided to our community other than a few dumpster and chipper rentals and things that are not of any real value to the community, as a WHOLE? Maybe we should ask all the homeowners currently putting for sale signs up? Stories of harassment, liens, lies, pets being targeted, and cruel immature tactics to run good people out of the community…it’s gone on long enough and it’s time for it to stop.

Stop the POA demanding dues. Don’t support an “Optional” Property Owner’s Association with paying non-mandatory dues – especially if they offer nothing in return – besides slapping a bogus lien on your property one day for not paying something you are not even obligated to pay! Be thankful that our subdivision is not REQUIRED to support such one-sided interests of a small group who are NOT the voice of this community, never were, or the majority of property owners and homeowners in Druid Hills, Florissant Colorado, Teller County.

A resident just recently reported being told that the Druid Hills POA “pays for the road maintenance” in the subdivision, but one quick call to Teller County Road and Bridge quickly identified this as a falsehood, one of the many that are told and supported by the POA. Druid Hills subdivision roads are maintained by the county of Teller, and are included in homeowner’s assessed taxes. It isn’t a line item, but it’s bundled in under Teller County.

One of the key points raised in their recent meetings was they intend to gradually raise dues upwards of $1500 a year, and currently have filings stating they do not intend to do ANYTHING for the subdivision or community in return. These are dues being raised to hire legal representation to try and further their own self interests and harassing home owners in our community. Please DO NOT support their agenda.

FACT: Homeowners Associations and Property Owners Associations are very similar, and although the term “Homeowners Association” is used in most cases, such as the video below portrays, Property Owners Associations can also become out of control and require community support and legal action to set straight. The two types of associations are often confused. Druid Hills can appear to be complicated as there are 2 Associations here.

The Druid Hills Home Owners Association (HOA) whose official site you are on now currently, and the Druid Hills Property Owners Association. There is a BIG difference between the HOA and the POA here in Druid Hills. For one, the HOA has never falsely represented itself as a “mandatory” association, forced dues or membership to be paid at real estate closings, placed bogus liens on homeowners who do not pay non-mandatory “dues”, harassed, or otherwise challenged the rights of homeowners to live at peace in the community they chose to invest in.

The Property Owners Association has done all of the above, and have plans to only do worse in the future – per their OWN documented statements. At this time, the Druid Hills Property Owners Association is a VOLUNTARY association, who are falsely identifying themselves as “MANDATORY” in an effort to mislead and deceive both current homeowners, as well as prospective buyers
